Short little booklet on the reasons for evangelism and outreach. Boston places the emphasis on self (similar to the first half of Baxter's The Reformed Pastor). Through providence and election once you submit to Christ, the opportunity for outreach will come with ease.Product details

The Art of Manfishing edition by Thomas Boston Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Thomas Boston is always good to read although the old English may be a little troublesome for some folks.
Jesus Christ commanded the Christian to be a fisher of men. The book gives instruction to win souls to Christ.
Excellent read, worth reading closely and carefully. The old English can be tricky but if you outline the main points as you go, you'll get a lot out of it.
from the inside front cover,
"This edition of The Art of Manfishing appears in a completely different form... there has been considerable editing..."
inlcuding their removal of a portion that they did not agree with.
I wish I would have known. Now to find a "real" copy...
Because of the time of it's writing, one must be more attentive when reading but It is so exciting to read books written so long ago that speak to us today. People talk so much about the times and the current culture. So much of who we are to be as Disciples of Christ are always current and applicable for all cultures in all times. I love the title too. Many of us are hungry for books with titles such as this to help us with our hobbies and passions of our day. This one is for our calling.
Boston's meditation on carnal v spiritual wisdom represents the epitome of what it is to not be "Ashamed of the Gospel". "Follow Me, and I shall make you fishers of men", is the command (and promise) of our Master. Boston helps the reader to seriously consider what it is to "Follow Christ". How did Christ fish for men? How did the Apostles, who were taught of Christ, fish for men? How did Stephen (Acts 7) fish for men? These are questions Boston would have us to seriously consider.
This book contains excellent advice for Christians, and pastors and workers in particular, on evangelism and sharing the Gospel. The well-known theologian J. I. Packer says in the foreword that this book has been "hailed by evangelicals as a masterpiece on ministry" since its publication in 1773. This is another wonderful Puritan reprint from Christian Focus; a small, compact paperback with an attractive glossy cover, explanatory introduction, and the full text of Boston's book in a clear, modern font. The only thing that might make the book more desirable would be if it came in a hardback edition printed on better quality paper. This book is great for people who want to learn more about sharing their faith in Christ with others.
