Fact or fiction? Sometimes it’s a very fine line.

When Charlie Grayson wrote a story about a vampire, she didn’t think it would become a bestseller, nor did she think it would become a movie, especially with Michael Dunne, Hollywood icon, playing her charismatic, troubled vampire, Annarchie.

For Charlie, it’s like a dream come true. During the film shoot, she gets to know Michael Dunne, the star, very well he is just like the Annarchie she wrote of.

But what Charlie doesn’t realize, until it’s too late, is that Michael Dunne doesn’t have to act in this movie because he IS the vampire she told the world about, and he’s been getting away with murder for centuries.

A Tear of Blood eBook Julie Harris

My dirty little secret is that I love vampire books. Ever since I read Dracula, I have been on a quest to read every vampire book I can find. Of course, like all voracious readers of vampire books, I do have some pretty basic standards: a hot, sexy male vampire, his obsession with a human female, who recognizes what he is and is torn between retaining her humanity and the promise of everlasting love and passion in the arms of her vampire. Sex is more important than blood, but throwing in a little murder and mystery really is the icing on thee cake. A Tear of Blood has all of this and more...

A Tear of Blood has a hot sexy male vampire, gorgeous actor, Michael Dunne who is obsessed with Charlie Grayson, the writer of the screenplay of his new movie A Tear of Blood. Charlie is not beautiful beyond belief and is astonished that Dunne is attracted to her. Dunne gradually reveals that her story channels the story of his life - a life that began when he transitioned from a sentient alien life form and assumed the body of her husband in Ireland in 16th century Ireland. Between then and now, he learned to drink human blood to survive and has loved and lost her many times. Dunne is determined that in this life, Charlie will transition and share eternity with him. They have shared reincarnation cycles with another person, the very attractive and all too human Daniel Johnson, now a police officer investigating several murders of young women, who died drained of blood and with a slight smile on their faces. Charlie is torn between Michael's incredible allure and Daniel's humanity. Charlie has to deal with a dying mother, pain and fear from her second bout with leukemia. Her time is running out fast but Dunne is determined not to lose her this time.

The novel is full of twists, turns, misdirections - all leading to a real surprise of an ending.
It's well written and should have been a real hit with me. Oddly enough, though, A Tear of Blood didn't thrill me. The story line was excellent, as was the pace, but the characters fell a bit flat. Michael started out to be a real thrill, yet he lost his allure quickly because he was totally devoid of humanity, just an empty shell. Charlie started off a bit weak but gained personality while Daniel just never fleshed out. No matter how good a book is conceptually, no matter how skillful the plot and subplots are developed, a book never really engages me when I just don't care about the characters. The characters in A Tear of Blood left me cold.

A Tear of Blood eBook Julie Harris Reviews

I was really expecting the typical vampire romance story that has been
all the rage for several years now. This story differs from that genre
in a few ways (some of them are very much spoilers) so the novel
doesn't feel stale or overdone like a more standard product might
have. Julie Harris's vampire lore is a very interesting take on the
subject.

Charlie, the heroine of this tale, is the author of a famous novel
that is being turned into a movie. The lead actor for the movie is
Micheal Dunne, an attractive American actor that is so like Annarchie,
the immortal character he is to play. As Micheal Dunne gets closer to
Charlie, the blood-drained bodies of young women begin to pile up and
Charlie begins to question whether Micheal is as much a stranger to
her as she thinks. A tale of obsessive love that spans hundreds of
years.

The characters felt fairly believable. They're flawed, and often aware
of their shortcomings. Michael does have the super-possessive and
controlling traits that you see in vamp fiction these days, but for
once these qualities are not played up as the qualities of a perfect
male. Some of the other characters do suffer from a lack of
development, and ultimately they're just there are chess pieces to
move the story along. There is a lot of drama that deals primarily
with relationships, so if this isn't your cup of tea you may not enjoy
them. There is some strong sexuality in this book that mostly has to
do with feeding, but it's not very graphic or too intrusive.

The story contains elements of vampire fiction, detective story,
sci-fi, and more. I think the blending of genres works out in favor of
this story, giving it a fresh feeling.

There are some noticeable spelling errors, but the formatting
generally seemed to be good. The prose if clear and easy to
understand, but still retains a bit of poetry. Nothing special, but it
works. The ending is a big surprise, and I partly feel satisfied that
I couldn't predict it and partly unsatisfied that it leaves some plot
threads dangling. It seems to set up for a sequel. This is far from
ground-breaking, but it is interesting enough to give it a whirl if
you're into the supernatural romance genre.
A Tear of Blood is an amazing story! It is full of mystery, intrigue, romance, and little bit of horror too.
Basically, Charlie Grayson, the author of the famous book, A Tear of Blood, wrote this novel and it became so popular that the movie industry wanted to make it into a movie. This is where the charming Michael Dunne comes in; he has the starring role of the cunning Annarchie Michaels, the vampire alien like species who landed on this world and tried to assimilate into mankind. Everything goes fine but then deaths begin popping up that are very similar to the plot of the movie and Charlie must figure out what is happening to her and the movie in itself.
There is a huge reincarnation theme suggested through this book which makes it even more interesting and enjoyable to read about. The characters are so well developed you actually feel the emotions they experience.
I was very satisfied with this book for many reasons. It is an absolute thrill ride! There is so much mystery; it had me guessing until very close to the end. It also has a romantic view in it which soon turns into other more disturbing emotions. Another great reason to read this book is it does have a type of vampire species in it but with a new alien concept mixed throughout the story.
You will not be disappointed with this book. It crosses many genres and I enjoyed it so much I could hardly put it down!
